                                                                                   History

In 1947 a group of minority real estate business men and women founded an organization to address the housing concerns of real estate practitioners and lack of housing opportunities for all citizens. Growing out of the Negro Business League, these practitioners formed local chapters throughout the United States. Because membership was denied to them into the REALTOR organization, they drafted a constitution, by-laws, and a code of ethics and became REALTISTS, the largest and oldest minority trade association in America.

In 1948, Daniel Spaulding, Linwood Koger, Philathea Carter, George Carroll and others, formed a local chapter of the national association and became the Real Estate Brokers of Baltimore. Inc. They adopted the theme, "Democracy in Housing" and rigorously advocated for the fair treatment of the community as well as real estate practitioners.

Since 1948, Realtists have actively pursued their theme, "Democracy in Housing". Their mission has been applauded locally and nationally; recognition of this organization's accomplishments has been numerous. Realtists train and counsel home buyers and sellers and promote the rights of all to be homeowners.

Realtists became the watchdog of pending legislation and pioneers in civil rights efforts towards equal treatment in housing. Realtists are appraisers, contractors, developers, property managers, title companies, loan officers, surveyors, pest inspectors, insurance brokers, sales, leasing agents and others in the housing industry.

Membership is open to all.
